Subject: Clarification Regarding News Reports on Alleged River Landfilling and Waste Accumulation within the Area

  1. Verification of the Alleged River Landfilling and Waste Accumulation Location
    • On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Commission III of the Central Sulawesi Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) conducted a working visit to North Morowali Regency to directly inspect the alleged landfilling of the Laa and Lampi rivers within the PT Stardust Estate Investment (SEI) area. The visit was led by the Chairwoman of Commission III, Ms. Arnila HM Ali, and attended by Vice Chair H. Zainal Abidin Ishak, Commission Secretary Muhammad Safri, several Commission III members, Chairwoman of North Morowali Regency DPRD Ms. Warda Dg Mamala, and other DPRD members.
Based on on-site inspections and spatial map comparisons, it has been confirmed that the location referred to in the news reports—namely the landfilled river and waste accumulation area—is situated on the southwest side of the estate and is not part of PT GNI’s operational area. Mr. Muhammad Safri, Secretary of Commission III of the Central Sulawesi DPRD, also emphasized that river management falls under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Government of Central Sulawesi. (See Attachment Image 1: Map of the field inspection location. The area is under the responsibility of another estate operator.)

We appreciate the attention and oversight of media colleagues regarding environmental issues in the region. For more information, please contact the estate operator or PT GNI’s environmental team.
