Rayakan Hari Lingkungan Hidup Sedunia dengan Aksi Nyata,PT GNI Gelar Bersih Sampah hingga Workshop

Morowali Utara, July 16, 2025 – PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI) once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental preservation by organizing a series of events in commemoration of World Environment Day in Morowali Utara, Central Sulawesi. These activities served not only as a reflection of the company’s concern for environmental sustainability, but also as an opportunity for education and collaboration between PT GNI, local government, village authorities, and surrounding communities.

One of the key activities was a beach clean-up and tree planting initiative at Ungkea Beach, Petasia Timur District, Morowali Utara Regency. This step represents PT GNI’s concrete commitment to integrating sustainability principles into its operational activities, while also supporting global environmental conservation programs.

In his speech at the event, the Head of the Morowali Utara Environmental Agency (DLHD), Ir. Syarifudin, S.T., M.T., expressed appreciation for PT GNI’s active involvement in environmentally impactful initiatives.

“The Morowali Utara Regency Government appreciates and thanks PT GNI management for organizing this event. This moment is not just an annual ceremony, but a call to our conscience to care for and preserve our environment. It is also part of a sustainable coastal conservation effort,” said Syarifudin.

Ungkea Beach, one of the region’s tourist destinations and natural habitats, became the focal point for the clean-up, targeting plastic waste and various other debris threatening the marine and coastal ecosystems. Participants also took part in a mass tree planting, aimed at reducing climate change impacts, preventing erosion, and supporting biodiversity conservation.

This initiative marks a concrete step by PT GNI in coastal ecosystem restoration. It is hoped that the action not only improves beach cleanliness but also raises community awareness about the importance of protecting coastal environments.

Thomas Nicholas, Head of HSE Corp at PT GNI, emphasized that the series of events was not merely ceremonial, but a symbol of the company’s genuine commitment and concrete actions toward preserving the environment and maintaining a sustainable ecosystem.

“We believe that small efforts like waste clean-up and tree planting can have a large, long-term impact. These actions are an integral part of our industrial operations and represent an investment in a better environmental future,” said Thomas.

Through these initiatives, PT GNI ensures that its corporate social responsibility is realized through active participation in sustainability issues. The beach clean-up and tree planting are only part of PT GNI’s long-term environmental conservation programs.

In addition, PT GNI hosted an environmental workshop and expo under the theme “Waste for Change – Toward a Sustainable Environment,” featuring speakers from the Morowali Utara Environmental Agency. Through Q&A sessions and interactive discussions, PT GNI employees were encouraged not only to understand the importance of proper waste management but also to be agents of change. The workshop is part of PT GNI’s broader effort to foster an environmentally responsible workplace culture.

The World Environment Day celebration serves as a reminder that industrial growth must go hand-in-hand with environmental preservation. PT GNI is committed to contributing to the development of a sustainable industry, and this initiative represents a foundational step toward that vision.

“A company’s success is not only measured by its output, but also by its well-planned and integrated efforts to manage the environment and ensure sustainability for surrounding communities,” concluded Thomas.
