North Morowali, October 23, 2025 — In celebration of the 12th Anniversary of North Morowali Regency, held under the theme “United in Harmony,” the local government organized a series of events featuring cultural performances and a development synergy forum. PT GNI, as one of the companies operating in the region, also took part through representatives from its management and staff.
In his remarks, Governor of Central Sulawesi, Anwar Hafid, stated that North Morowali Regency has achieved an impressive rate of economic growth. “We have seen many remarkable achievements from this region. The Human Development Index (HDI) of North Morowali has reached 71.64%, an increase from previous years. Furthermore, the region has recorded a spectacular economic growth rate of 27.30% in 2023, and it continues to maintain a solid position at 14.3% this year, which shows that this regency has been able to sustain its economic growth,” he said.
Anwar Hafid added that the open unemployment rate has also continued to decline, attributing this progress to the strong synergy between the local government and corporate sector, which has become one of the key pillars behind these achievements.
“The open unemployment rate was recorded at 2.30% in 2024 and further declined to 2.23% in 2025. Overall, on a macro level, North Morowali Regency has shown significant progress in human development,” he added.
In this regard, a number of data indicate that PT GNI has played a significant role in accelerating the development of North Morowali Regency, particularly by employing thousands of local workers and creating opportunities for micro-enterprises around its production site.
PT GNI Site Leader, Li Kaiguo, stated that the company is committed to continuing its synergy with the local government and the community to sustain long-term economic growth. “We are proud to be part of North Morowali’s development. Our commitment goes beyond the industrial sector — it also extends to improving community welfare and promoting sustainable development,” said Li Kaiguo.
The 12th Anniversary of North Morowali serves as a reminder to all stakeholders that sustainable regional development requires long-term commitment, public oversight, and strong accountability mechanisms. In closing his remarks, Anwar Hafid called on all stakeholders to work in synergy to achieve inclusive progress, expressing his hope that North Morowali will continue to strengthen quality investments and advance the development of excellent human resources.
“My first hope is that we continue to maintain a healthy investment climate in this region. Secondly, the development of high-quality human resources will remain a priority. Sustainable and environmentally conscious development is extremely important. I encourage all parties to continue making strong efforts toward responsible environmental management in North Morowali Regency,” he concluded.
