PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI) officially carried out the first export of nickel-processed products on Thursday (20/1/2022).
The shipment was carried out through PT GNI's Jetty Port located in North Morowali, carrying nickel derivative products in the form of Nickel Pig Iron (NPI) or ferronickel.
Operations Director of PT GNI, Tony Zhou Yuan, explained that the 13,650 tons of ferronickel sent to China were the processed product from three smelter furnaces that were already operating. At the same time, the total or nominal value has reached around 23 million US dollars.
"We hope that with the initial shipment of ferronickel, it will boost the country's foreign exchange in the tax sector, which of course will also have an impact on regional profits," said Mr. Tony, his nickname, Thursday (20/1).
Mr. Tony continued that 20 other furnaces can also be operated in the next six months, which will further boost production at PT GNI. It means that the economic impact of PT GNI will be more significant in terms of state revenues through tax payments and the creation of more job opportunities.
“We have recruited as many as ten thousand local workers at PT GNI. And we also hope, if the company's wheels can run smoothly without any significant obstacles, the absorption of local workers will continue to increase until it reaches 25 thousand workers later," said Mr. Tony
With the increasing number of workers at PT GNI, the economic impact for North Morowali Regency residents will also be multiplied.
“The delivery of nickel-processed products in GNI smelter is an effort to support the government's program not to export raw materials such as nickel. PT GNI is committed to supporting this program to increase economic growth in the country," he said.
Also present at the inaugural export ceremonial event was the Chief of Morowali Customs Office, Rubiyantara, Head of North Morowali One-Stop Investment and Licensing Department, Armansyah Abd Patah S.Sos., M.Si, Head of Resource North Morowali Police Departement, Police Commissioner I Nyoman Raka Arya SH and several other high-ranking officials at PT GNI.
The Chief of Morowali Customs Service Office Rubiyantara gave a positive appreciation to the company that had made the first export of ferronickel shipments.
"Alhamdulillah, from the approximately Rp206 billion revenue target given to Morowali Customs, which embody three regencies, i.e. Morowali, Poso, and Morut, had exceeded the target, reaching Rp679 billion, an increase of up to 300 percent. For this reason, we have to positively support PT GNI investment while still prioritizing the inherent supervisory function in it," said Rubiyantara. (Mic/Van)
