To meet the world's increasing nickel demand, PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI), a nickel smelter company located in North Morowali, Central Sulawesi, is present as a nickel processing company that synergizes in the mineral and coal downstream program.
The founder of PT GNI, Tony Zhou Yuan, revealed that PT GNI is part of the Indonesian National Strategic Project in the downstreaming sector of mineral and coal and invests around 3 billion US dollars for production and support needs.
"PT GNI plans to invest around 3 billion US dollars, and will build 24 ferronickel production lines and a steam power plant with a capacity of about 1,115 MW, a total capacity of 2 million metric tons," he said in his official statement Friday (3/9/2021).
Tony explained that his party chose North Morowali Regency because Central Sulawesi Province is one of the most potential nickel mining areas in Indonesia.
Then, Tony explained that PT GNI adopted the latest and environmentally friendly Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology globally, with a production level of Nickel Pig Iron (NPI) which has a nickel content of 10-12 percent.
"We believe with hard work and consistency, we can build GNI to become the largest in the nickel smelter industry," he explained.
In addition, Tony said, PT GNI also cooperates with local governments to develop and realize the government’s downstreaming programs, as well as improve the welfare of local communities in the fields of education, environment, tourism, and so on.
“PT GNI's investment has received strong support from various levels of government. We sincerely thank you," he said.
It is known that the presence of PT GNI has opened new job opportunities for the community and has been able to absorb around 4,000 workers so far and is planned to increase to approximately 10,000 workers in the future. PT GNI has also built various supporting facilities, ranging from road access, jetty, steam power plant, and batching plant to employee residences.(rd)(rd)
